Pick the base by the evening
Victor Harbor offers a practical centre for a short coastal break, while Port Elliot can suit visitors seeking a smaller-town setting. Look at the exact accommodation address rather than the town label. A property on the edge may still require a drive for dinner.
For one or two nights, there is little reason to move hotels between the towns. Choose the room that supports your needs, whether that means a kitchen, family sleeping space or an easy walk to food. Keep the other town as a relaxed outing.
Give Victor Harbor a substantial half-day
Start near the waterfront and decide how Granite Island fits your visit. Check current access and the operation of any service you plan to use. Allow time to walk, pause and return rather than counting only the crossing itself.
Pair this with lunch and a town-based visit according to interests. Families may prefer a shorter island outing and a longer break afterward. If the weather is poor, do not force an exposed walk simply because it was the first item on the plan.
Let Port Elliot be more than a food stop
A bakery visit can be enjoyable, but give the town time beyond the queue. Walk through the streets, look toward Horseshoe Bay and choose a coastal section suited to the day's conditions. Keep behind barriers and follow local notices near exposed edges.
If swimming is part of the plan, assess the actual beach and current advice rather than relying on a calm photograph. Carry a change of clothes so the outing can shift naturally from the shore to a café. A slow lunch may be a better use of an unsettled afternoon than driving to several more beaches.
Leave one morning unscheduled
For a two-night stay, keep the final morning for breakfast and a short local walk. This gives you a chance to revisit a favourite place without a full day's packing pressure. Check checkout and luggage arrangements if you want to linger.
On the return to Adelaide, choose at most one additional stop that fits the route. A quiet break loses its value when the last afternoon becomes a race across the peninsula. If another coastal area interests you, it can be the focus of the next visit.
